The Two ‘Making of’ Documentaries that Sparked My Passion For Filmmaking
Where my passion for movies was born.
All I’ve ever wanted to do is make movies. Before I ever wanted to be an actor, I wanted to make films. It’s a passion that I can trace back to two specific documentary films I saw when I was a young kid. These gems lit a flame in me for filmmaking that would stay with me into adulthood and will be with me as long as I live.
EXT. NEW ZEALAND — THE 1980's
In the early 80’s my dad bought a VHS recorder. In our small town in New Zealand (Taumarunui: population 6,000) he was one of the few early adopters and he helped a friend set up a video rental store by helping him copy (illegally) endless movies to populate the shelves. The thank-you for this favour was lifetime free rentals from the store. I would walk past the store on the way home from school and pick any video from the shelves. It was awesome.
One day I discovered a tape that would sow the seeds of a lifelong passion.
