Missing out on a bit-part in a Hollywood movie

Manifestation sometimes works. Attachment always sucks.

I believe in manifesting your own destiny. You know the sort of thing…picture yourself having already achieved your goals, already owning the things you desire, already living the life you want — I’m totally here for it, and sometimes it even works. But the truth is that there is only so much you can control.

Last week I narrowly missed out on an amazing opportunity; a tiny part in a massive movie. Seriously, it was as big as they come. At the time of the audition I had no idea what it was. I had a Zoom audition with the casting associate, did my stuff, had a great time and we both had fun playing with the scene. With any audition or (more commonly these days) self-tape you can’t linger on it, over-analyzing how you did — you have to do it and move on, fire and forget, its the first rule. But sometimes you get a good feeling about it and sometimes you don’t. This was definitely a good feeling, but I still did my actorly duty and promptly moved on.

Then I got penciled for the job.

For those not in the acting game, a pencil is basically a request that you hold the shooting dates because the casting director liked your audition and wants to suggest you or you may have been shortlisted by the director, either way you’re in the running…
